David R. Godine, Boston, 1978. 134 pp., 128 black-and-white text illus, 109 black-and-white photographs, 8½x7".

This diverse collection of self-portraits reveals the work of 56 female photographers, including portfolios by Bobbi Carrey, Suzanne Winterberger, Judith Golden, De Ann Jennings, Bea Nettles, and Joyce Tenneson Cohen. Alternately humorous and disquieting, the images span a wide range of topics of exploration of female and self identity. Rich in imagery, the book is further enhanced by Patricia Meyer Spack's essay "Self As Subject: A Female Language."
