Publisher's Description
The work of Amsterdam-based visual artist and documentary photographer Anaïs López investigates how people live in the city. López is fascinated with the dynamic between the human and urban scales, and the interaction between private and public spheres. This book features a photo, video and sound installation about IJburg, a new neighbourhood in Amsterdam built on artificial islands. For the project, López befriended Jean, a blind man, and accompanied him for eighteen months on walks across IJburg, learning to listen to the birds, and by extension, the city. The images are based on these sounds, enhanced by visual wavelengths of the various birdcalls encountered.
