Photographs by Paul Ickovic. Essay by Vaclav Havel. Foreward by Cornell Capa.
International Center of Photography, New York, 1991. 96 pp., 46 duotone illustrations, 12x9½".

In 1989 and 1990, photographer Paul Ickovic returned to his native Czechoslovakia during the first heady days of its liberation. The forty-six duotone illustrations are his testament to the changes that were affecting the country. These present on a human scale, the portrait of a nation finding its way after more than four decades as a reluctant bastion of communism. The impact of this time is reflected not only in the photographs but also in Vaclav Havel's essay.
