Few Comforts or Surprises.

Photographs by Eugene Richards.
MIT Press, Cambridge, 1973. 123 pp., 11x9".

Richards' powerful photographs were taken during his years as a Vista volunteer in the predominantly black Arkansas Delta, and in the years following, during which he founded RESPECT, Inc., a social-action program. His images do not concentrate on just the suffering, however, but also the triumphs and strengths of the lives of the residents.
