The Photographic Artifacts of Timothy O'Sullivan.

Photographs and text by Rick Dingus.
University of New Mexico Press, Albuquerque, 1982. 158 pp., 9x11½".

Author Rick Dingus is well-known for his participation in the Rephotographic Survey Project. As part of that project he re-photographed as exactly as possible many of the sites made famous by O'Sullivan's early geological survey pictures. Some of those photographs are included here as part of Dingus' in-depth analysis of the famous documentary photographer's career. "By considering O'Sullivan not just as a documenter of the landscape but as a thoughtful artist, Dingus can discern his profound philosophical interest in nature and the passage of time."--the publisher.
