Photography in New Mexico.
From the Daguerreotype To the Present.

Written by Van Deren Coke. Foreward by Beaumont Newhall. Photographs by Jackson, Curtis, Gilpin, Strand, Weston, Porter, Caponigro, others.
University of New Mexico Press, Albuquerque, 1979. 156 pp., 8½x11".

This book traces the history of photography in New Mexico from the earliest days of the daguerreotype to "promising students of the 1970's who have been attracted to the state's unique subject matter." - the publisher. In all, the work of seventy photographers, from John K. HIllers to William Clift, are represented here. Newhall's text is a thorough examination of a geographic slice of the history of photography and offers biographical information on less well-known early and contemporary photographers.
