Magnificent bold designs used by the Showa people for the decoration of currency, funeral shrouds, and after the arrival of Catholic missionaries in the sixteenth century, religious vestments, are collected in this volume by Belgian artist and designer Georges Meurant. Since the cessation in the early twentieth century of the genuine productin of these textiles, the have become highly prized collectors items; the strength of the remarkable designs reproduced in this book shows why.
