Publisher's Description
The Seventh Dog is an original photobook by Danny Lyon (b.1942), covering 50 years of his remarkable career as one of the most original and influential American photographers. Often regarded as a maverick, Lyon pioneered the style of photographic ‘New Journalism’ when he rebelled against Life-magazine-style photographs, and instead immersed himself in the lives of his subjects and paving the way for a future generation of photographers.

This is Lyon's personal story of his photographic journey: starting in the present day and moving back in time to the 1960s, it features recent color work such as Occupy (2011) and Indian Nations (2002), as well as classic b&w work from the '60s and '70s such as Bikeriders, Texas Prisons and the Destruction of Lower Manhattan. The Seventh Dog features Lyon's own writings, color and b&w photographs, collages, original letters, and ephemera – much of which is published here for the first time.

Beautifully produced with an original cover by Lyon, high-quality photographic and facsimile reproductions, and special finishes, the book also features a new original essay by Elisabeth Sussman, Curator of Photography at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
