Photographs by Elger Esser. Text by Bernd Stiegler and Kirsten Claudia Voigt.
Schirmer/Mosel, Munich, Germany, 2016. In English, French, and German. 256 pp., 12¾x11".

Publisher's Description

Combray, a fictional location in Marcel Proust’s In Search of Lost Time, is every place where France might still look as it did in Proust’s time: enchanted villages, riverside farms, Monet’s garden in Giverny, old monasteries and church ruins.

Shot in black-and-white, Elger Esser produced heliogravures from negatives, an outdated method that highlights the beauty and latent melancholy of his vision of Prout's Combray.
