Texas: A Photographic Portrait: 2 Volumes, Slipcased.

Edited by Martha A. Sandweiss, Anne Tucker, and Roy Flukinger.
Texas Monthly Press, Austin, 1986. 567 pp., 9x12".

These two volumes represent a sesquicentennial project sponsored by the Texas Historical Foundation. The first volume, Contemporary Texas, is a compilation of the work of sixteen diverse contemporary photographers: Jim Bones, Paul Hester, Wendy Watriss, Mary Peck, Michael Murphy, Carol Cohen Burton, Rick Williams, Peter Ferston, Stuart Klipper, George Krause, Ave Bonar, Frank Gohlke, Frank Armstrong, Gay Block, and Skeet McAuley. Volume 2, Historic Texas, is an anthology of Texas imagery up through the 1970s, most previously unpublished. The bizarre and amusing range of photographs, culled from public and private collections throughout the state, includes work by professionals and amateurs, both formal and candid, and forms a well-rounded view of the state.
