About the Ltd Edition

Limited Edition of 100 copies

How does one begin to talk about a limited edition, boxed set of prints entitled, Hey F**kface? (By the way, those asteriks are placed by me, the editor; the true title is what you imagine it is.) There is a brief interview, consisting of 1 question and 1 answer, that starts one off on the correct foot.

"What the hell is all this f**king s**t about anyway?

"None of your g*****n business" is the prompt reply.

To get to the point, this work is about Curses and goes much deeper than one imagines at first.

With a map in hand, Gossage set off to photograph the exact locations mentioned on the 103c list of hazardous waste sites published by the EPA. These are sites that are extremely hazardous but have not yet made it on to the widely publicized Superfund list. Fortunately, Gossage didn't even have to leave the NY region, photographing in Staten Island and the area around Syracuse. Here, the idea of curse plunges into the relationship between man and the land he inhabits. The sites are literally cursed by the matter we have deposited. The original silver prints, printed by Gossage, are each drymounted on top of handwritten common curse words, none of which I shall mention here. The effect, along with the insightful essays, inevitably causes a great deeal of reflection about a myriad of topics. All material is housed in a splendid wood and plexiglass box (similar to The Things Animals Care About). Nazraeli Press continues to step up to the bat in terms of publishing provocative, serious, and worthy contemporary photography. A truly wonderful piece of art.
