Ghost Image.

Text by Hervé Guibert.
Sun & Moon Classics, Los Angeles, 1996. 159 pp., 5x7½".

This delightful collection of short essays meanders through some very insightful questions about photography and personal history. Guibert-- a close friend and contemporary of Michel Foucalt--is just a likely to wonder about the name Polaroid and the implications of trademarking as he is to narrarate the experience of buying a pornographic magazine. Although the style is reminiscent of Roland Barthes' Camera Lucida, Guibert has found a voice of his own, and a set of questions true to his generation. This is the first translation of Hervé Guibert's Ghost Images into English.
