Blind Spot Issue 9.

Araki, David Armstrong, Lois Conner, William Eggleston, Jim Goldberg, David LaChappelle, Duane Michals, Michael Stipe, Wim Wenders.
Blind Spot Photography, Inc., New York, 1997. 80 pp., numerous color and duotone illustrations, 9x10½".

Since its very first issue Blind Spot has been a fresh approach to the photography journal. The essays blend from one to the next, stressing the images and their relationships to eachother rather than dwelling on the requisite text or biographies. Exploring the theme "coming of age," issue number nine presents a vivid cross-section of thought, including a self-portrait by Duane Michals entitled "Father is Dead," Jim Goldberg's L.A. street kids, and many images exploring suburban childhood, the landscape, and memory. Other photographers include Araki, David Armstrong, Lois Conner, William Eggleston, David LaChapelle, and Wim Wenders. Text by Joyce Carol Oates.
