Photographs by Rose Marasco.
University of Southern Maine, Gorham, USA, 2004. 64 pp., Numerous color illustrations, 7x10".

Publisher's Description

Published in conjunction with Marasco's major exhibition at the University of Southern Maine Art Gallery, this beautiful monograph features 40 color photographs, an introductory essay by art historian Kim Grant, and a poem by Charles Simic, award winning poet.

Domestic Objects : Past and Presence is a ten year retrospective of Marasco's lush large format cibachrome photographs on the poetics of everyday household objects. Previously, portions of this retrospective were shown in several solo exhibitions at the Sarah Morthland Gallery, NYC and the Davis Museum & Cultural Center at Wellesley College, and in group shows at Smith College Museum of Art, Bowdoin College Museum of Art, and the Portland Museum of Art.

In a review in the Village Voice, Vince Aletti had this to say about Marasco's work:
"With these photos of brightly colored aprons, wooden clothespins, quilt squares, and button arrangements, Marasco evokes and celebrates women's work without resorting to clumsy didacticism. Placing three old thimbles in a bird's nest, a girl's penmanship book among autumn leaves, or a wooden rolling pin on a rock by a lake, Marasco has a light, sure, and very charming touch."
