American Color Slides.

Photographs by Edward Grazda.
self-published, 2007. 30 pp., 16 color photographs., 11¼x8¾".

Edward Grazda's American Color Slides begins with a long shot down a green, tree-lined road, and ends with an image of a big cloud in an even bigger sky-all above another long road. In between we see the journey, the points in between the A-to-B bookending images: Dusty front porches, the odd regional cafe, sordid motels, and tourist traps. Grazda's America is populated by long sedans made longer with tail fins and the people pushing these vehicles down that road, from station to station, back and forth from roadside attraction to rest stop. These photographs from 1971 to 1979 range through Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and Texas, and they convey a unique combination of place and transitoriness. American Color Slides is published in an edition of 50 signed and numbered copies .
