Publisher's Description
The images in this project are layered as translucent graphite drawings
floating over black and white photographs, and are meant to be viewed
simultaneously as well as side by side (the turned page). The final
incarnation of these images are presented as archival, carbon inkjet
prints. The project evolved into a book, unbound. The loose pages
reflect the content, physical and metaphorical, that underpins In Praise
of Stories.
In Praise of Stories is about layers. The layers of natural and
geologic systems, and the layers of myth and storytelling that human
endeavor drapes upon both historical and contemporary geographies. To
extrapolate one from the other is a form of storytelling as well, a sort
of meditation on the weight of an unspeaking universe, juxtaposed
against the nearly endless chatter of human explanation for that
universe: the ancient and insatiable
need for meaning.
