Publisher's Description
This book follows the Amu Darya and Syr Darya – two rivers – across Central Asia. Moving from their terminus at the dessicated Aral Sea, to their source in the Pamir and Tian Shan mountains, the work engages with the varied people and landscapes along the rivers. In content and form, it studies the boundaries between nature, politics, and human life in five little known countries. The design by Sybren Kuiper features a Japanese binding, with photographs wrapping over a fold to the next page. The book comes with a separately bound textual guide by Elif Batuman.
