Publisher's Description

This is a one-of-a-kind artist book.

The title of this book is "Falling Leaves."  On the cover is an acrylic lift of a tintype I made of my favorite tree at Sauvie's Island, and you open the box to discover another tree in the distance.  In the bottom of the box, on top of a stack of pages, a photo of a leaf appears.  The photos of leaves inside the box are scans of leaves I gathered from my yard and on my walks. I doubled exposed these scans with backgrounds of other tintypes to give each photo a liquid-looking, organic edge, and each photograph is printed on watercolor paper that I've colored by hand using pigments that are made of pulverized stones.

As you go through the fallen leaves, you see that other images are also present...blurry photos of families, a dog, planes dropping bombs, a letter from a child written to her mother, all interleaved, if you will, with the photos of real leaves.  All the events collected in this box, all the people and leaves alike, are fallen -are all part of the detritus of life. All these things fall equally and are layered here, and like sedimentary rock forms a whole by accretion.
