The Hoo peninsula from central London between the estuaries of the Thames and Medway, about an hour's drive. This narrow piece of land consists mostly of sand and clay hills which are surrounded by marshland. Strange caught and inanimate works of nature, full of contrasts presents the landscape. Between grazing sheep on salt marshes and mud bottoms, technology and industry have already made inroads, the remote area is traversed and peopled by so many bizarre a seemingly shipwreck that has long since become part of the scenery of electricity pylons.

Over a period of several the years photographer Michael Collins made ??his way to Hoo with a large format camera and tried to uncover the traces of history in this seemingly robust landscape. Out of this have come shots inspired by the landscapes of plein air painting did stand out for Their attention to detail and are deliberately framed in the tradition of the so-called 'record picture' of the 19th century - archive images documenting the achievements of industrialization on behalf of the government.
