Publisher's Description
Known for his complex and rich photographs of Africa and Egypt, in Pictures From The Next Day, Robert Lyons has created a series about one man: Walter Niemiec. Walter spent his life in Western Massachusetts in the house where he was born. His only time away from this one house, a structure that will outlast a lifetime, was as a Navy Radioman during WWII. Through focusing on Walter’s objects and space Lyons presents a discourse on aging, life and the choices within which one exists. Walter’s surroundings and eccentricities are at once singular and universal. This book follows Lyons’ first exhibition of his work done in the USA, and the photographs are in a context that is familiar yet also somehow more distant.
