'Today Is The First Day' is published in conjunction with the solo exhibitions 'Rebuilding the Future' at IMMA, Dublin and 'Today Is The First Day' at WIELS, Brussels. The richly illustrated artist's book explores the recent developments in Tillmans' work over the past three years and encompasses his multifaceted access to image, video, performance, music and his political activities. It also includes new texts by authors such as the writer Olivia Laing, the historian Brian Dillon, the curator Catherine Wood and the geologist Dr. David Chew. Each of them illuminates a different aspect of Tillmans' oeuvre. 'Today Is The First Day' alone comprises over 30 pages that Tillmans' Stage design for the production of War Requiem at the English National Opera, as well as recent portraits and detailed installation views that give a deep insight into Tillmans' exhibition practice, in places like Kinshasa and Goslar, Hong Kong and Johannesburg.
