Imogen Cunningham Bio


1890 Studied drawing and painting.
1907 Graduated from the University of Washington after an independent course of study that she had elected to prepare herself for a photographic career.
1932 As a founding member of Group f. 64, she participated in the Group f. 64 Exhibition at the M.H. de Young Memorial Museum in San Francisco. Exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum.
1961 Exhibition, George Eastman House, Rochester, New York.
1970 Awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship to print from her early negatives. University of Washington Press published Imogen Cunningham: Photographs. Major retrospective exhibition, Witkin Gallery, New York. Smithsonian Institute purchased major collection of her work.
1973 Ninetieth birthday. San Francisco Art Commission declared her Artist of the Year. Photographs by Imogen Cunningham at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Exhibition, Imogen Cunningham at 90, Witkin Gallery, New York.
1976 23 June 1976 Died in San Francisco.
