Edward Ranney: Ancient Sites on Peru's Desert Coast
Portfolio Introduction
Since 1985 Edward Ranney has been photographing pre-Columbian sites along the desert coast of the Andes. This as yet uncompleted survey records several hundred sites dating from the pre-ceramic period, ca. 4,000 B.C., up until the Spanish conquest in 1532 A.D. The work includes images of the unique geoglyphs created by the Nasca culture as well as the ruins and landscape of many other coastal cultures. This work has been presented in exhibition at the Denver Art Museum, The Museum of Modern Art, NY, The University of New Mexico Art Museum,The Miraflores Cultral Center, Lima, Vision Gallery, San Francisco, The Photographic Resource Center, Boston, and Photo-Eye Gallery, Santa Fe, New Mexico.
